At MarieSue Lingerie, we regularly meet women who are unaware that they may be entitled to financial support from the HSE for post-surgery bras, prostheses, and specialist lingerie after breast surgery. We believe every woman should know what support is available to her, so we’ve put together this simple guide to help explain your entitlements.
What Is the HSE Breast Prosthesis Grant?
The HSE provides financial assistance to women who have undergone breast surgery, including mastectomy or lumpectomy procedures. This support helps cover the cost of:
- Breast Prosthesis
- Post-surgery bras
- Specialist mastectomy swimwear
- Swim Prosthesis
The grant is designed to ensure women can access properly fitted products that support both comfort and confidence during recovery and beyond.
How Much Can You Claim?
Currently, the HSE Breast Prosthesis Grant Scheme allows eligible women to claim towards:
- One or two external breast prosthesis
- A contribution towards mastectomy bras
- Replacement prosthesis every two years (or sooner if medically necessary) and swim prosthesis.
The exact amount can vary depending on your individual circumstances.
Who Is Eligible?
You may qualify if you have had:
- A mastectomy
- Breast-conserving surgery
- Reconstructive breast surgery
- Other medically necessary breast procedures
Both medical card holders and non-medical card holders can apply in many cases.
How Do I Apply?
Call into us in either our Carlow or Newbridge Stores with a letter or prescription with the items above on it. You can email it to us either on info@mariesue.ie or post it to us.
We then send it off to the HSE branch and call you when you have been authorised, then you come in and get fitted.
If we do not have your size in store, we can order it in for you. We send you out a reminder letter near 1 year later, to remind you to repeat the process if you wish to avail of the items again.
